Strategy Analytics has unveiled European cable’s broadband winners and losers.
Strategy Analytics has just number-crunched the end-of-year 2007 for Europe’s major cable operators, which means the quarterly subscriber growth trends for 75 major broadband service providers (BSPs) operating across Europe.
At the end of 2007, says the research firm, these service providers delivered broadband services to 88 million customers – representing 85% of the total broadband installed base in the region and 18 million more than were served in 2006. These BSPs added a total of 3.8 million new customers during the fourth quarter.
On the overall Broadband Top 10 list, France Telecom continues to lead the European market, having added an additional 411,000 new subscriptions in Q4'07. Deutsche Telekom edged out Telecom Italia for the number two slot, reporting 10.2 million total broadband subs at the end of 2007. Liberty Global, operating under the UPC brand, made its debut on the Top 10 list at number 9, reporting 2.7 million broadband subs at the end of the year.
In terms of net new subs acquisition, Deutsche Telekom led in 2007, chalking up 2.889 million new subs. Telecom Italia and France Telecom likewise reported impressive 2007 sub growth of 2.307 million and 2.168 million, respectively.
